Longtime Android users might remember that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.androidcentral.com\/google-listen-officially-dead\">Google used to have an app called Listen<\/a>, its first attempt at a podcasts player. But the company shut down Listen in 2012. That same year,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2012\/6\/26\/3118820\/apple-podcasts-app-release\">Apple debuted its own Podcasts app<\/a>\u00a0for iOS, which has proven to be hugely popular.<\/p>\n<p id=\"bJXFwI\">Google has already unveiled similar home screen shortcuts for other services\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/9to5google.com\/2018\/06\/04\/google-lens-shortcut-app-play-store\/\">like the Google Assistant or Google Lens<\/a>\u00a0in recent months. While these services technically live inside the Google app, the shortcuts turn them into services that essentially work like standalone products.
