But this is where the Irish author Mike McCormack finds himself, with Wednesday\u2019s announcement that he has won the\u00a0<a class=\"u-underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/international-dublin-literary-award\" data-link-name=\"auto-linked-tag\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">International Dublin literary award<\/a>\u00a0for his novel, Solar Bones. As someone who has hovered close to mainstream success without ever shaking off the slightly damning label of \u201cwriter\u2019s writer\u201d, he is unsurprisingly delighted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t feel neglected today. I don\u2019t know who put that Wiki page up, but I think whoever did will have to rethink that,\u201d he laughs. \u201cI was shocked. I had completely given up hope that I was going to win it.
