Introduction

First of all, Thank you so much for purchasing this template and for being our loyal customer. You are awesome!

This documentation is to help you regarding each step of customization. Please go through the documentation carefully to understand how this template is made and how to edit this properly.

WordPress Requirements

Before you can use the Mow theme, you need a working installation of WordPress.org on your hosting environment. If you're just starting out, you can follow the official guide on how to install WordPress here:

Having a basic understanding of how WordPress works (posts, pages, menus, media, etc.) will help you get the most out of your new theme.

Theme Installation

To use Mow WordPress Theme, you must be running WordPress 6.0 or higher, PHP 7.4 and mysql 5 or higher version. Below is a checklist of items your host needs to comply with to ensure proper Mow operation:

  • Ensure your web host has the minimum requirements to run WordPress.
  • Make sure the latest version of WordPress is up and running.
  • If necessary, you can download the latest release of WordPress from the official WordPress website.

Note: To successfully install the theme, please unzip the downloaded file (main.zip) after purchasing. Inside the extracted folder, locate the theme file: mow.zip.

There are two methods to install the theme. If the normal installation method [a] is not supported by your web host, you can use the alternate option [b].

a) Normal Installation

  1. Log in to your WordPress Admin dashboard and navigate to Appearance > Themes.
  2. Click on Add New Theme (or the "Install Themes" tab for older versions) and then click Upload.
  3. Browse your computer to select mow.zip (found in the extracted main.zip folder) and click the Install Now button.
  4. Once uploaded, click the Activate link to activate your theme.

b) FTP Installation (Alternate Method)

  1. Use FTP software to browse to the wp-content/themes folder on your web server.
  2. Upload the extracted mow folder (from mow.zip).
  3. Once the upload is complete, log in to your WordPress Admin dashboard and navigate to Appearance > Themes.
  4. Click the Activate link to activate your theme.

Important:   After activation, you will be presented with mow-core plugin that you should activate. Do not forget to activate it or not all of the theme features will be available.
Note:   If you are migration from a theme which used the native featured images functionality of WordPress. Please use the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin to resize all the thumbnails. Click the link above and download the free plugin, and read through the steps it contains, it has all the information you need. Run it from Tools > Regenerate Thumbnails.

Demo Content Import

Before we start to import a demo content we have do following instructions:

  1. Set up PHP Configuration limits

Issues you may encounter, such as demo content fails when importing and similar issues, are generally related to excessively low PHP configuration limit settings. You can either increase these limits on your own, or contact your web host and ask to have the limits increased to the following minimums:

    • memory_limit - 96M
    • max_input_vars - 3000
    • max_execution_time - 600
    • post_max_size - 32M
    • upload_max_filesize - 32M
    • allow_url_fopen - ON

  2. Verify your PHP limits

You can check them by installing the WordPress phpinfo() plugin and checking Settings. The first column refers to your installation value, and the second column refers to the limits of your host. The latter values are often lower if you have selected a cheaper hosting package.

Now we are ready to import a demo content

Important:   Please do not import content on a WordPress installation that already has a lot of content. Or the very least, make a backup first. A catastrophic mess can be created.
Note:  In some cases you would like to remove demo content. You can remove all posts, pages, etc using WordPress Reset plugin. Be aware that this plugin resets the WordPress database back to it's defaults. Deletes all customizations and content. It does not modify files only resets the database.

There are two methods to import a demo content. If you have SSL Certificate on your website you can use method [1] One Click Demo Importer (auto), but if you have not installed SSL Certificate or you couldn't import a demo content via method [1] you can use method [2] with XML File (manually).

Let's take a look at both methods.

To set the featured image, use the WordPress normal method.

>> Recommended Image Size (for Blog Posts)

Image size (dimensions) will depend on what type of layout you're using throughout your WordPress installation or per individual post basis. This image will not only be used on the post, but also on the category listing pages.

🎙 Podcasts & Episodes – How It Works

This section explains how podcasts and episodes are structured, how to create them, and how they connect to each other.

🧭 Getting Started with Podcasts & Episodes

Before you start publishing your audio content, it's important to understand how the podcast system works. First, you create podcasts — each podcast serves as a container for multiple episodes and includes details like title, cover image, description, and category. Once a podcast is created, you can begin adding episodes. Each episode is linked to a podcast and one or more hosts, and includes its own title, content, and audio file URL. Episodes support direct links to audio files (e.g., .mp3), which can be hosted on your own server or from any public source. Finally, you’ll create two separate pages: one to display all podcasts and another to display all episodes, using the special page templates provided in the theme. This structure gives you full flexibility and control over how your podcast content is organized and delivered. As shown in the diagram, the process starts by creating podcasts, then adding episodes, and finally linking them to the appropriate podcast and host(s).

📌 General Structure

  • Step 1: Create Podcasts – these contain the main info about the show.
  • Step 2: Add Episodes and link them to a podcast and one or more Hosts.
  • Step 3: Create two pages: one for All Podcasts and one for All Episodes.
  • Step 4: Episodes support direct audio file links (.mp3) from your server or any public URL.

🧩 1. What Is a Podcast?

A podcast is the main audio entity in this theme that brings together multiple episodes under a single show. Each podcast includes important details such as a title, cover image, excerpt (short description), and an optional category. Categories allow you to organize podcasts by topics or genres, giving your visitors a more intuitive browsing experience.

Each podcast can include one or many episodes. These episodes will automatically appear on the single podcast page, in the main podcast listing, and wherever you use the Elementor Podcast shortcode or widget.

➕ Extra Features:

  • You can assign one or more categories to each podcast.
  • Podcast categories can be displayed in the fixed left sidebar, alongside regular post categories — making navigation easier and more consistent.

✅ How to Add a Podcast

  • Go to Admin > Podcasts > Add New
  • Enter a title (name of your podcast)
  • Fill in the Excerpt – used in list and single views
  • Select a Category (optional)
  • Upload a cover image (Media)
  • Add content or description (optional)

Once saved, you can start adding episodes to this podcast.

🎧 2. What Is an Episode?

An episode is an individual audio entry that belongs to a podcast. It usually includes:

  • A title
  • Description or content
  • Audio file link
  • Host(s)
  • Podcast association

You can create unlimited episodes per podcast.

✅ How to Add an Episode

  • Go to Admin > Episodes > Add New
  • Enter a title for the episode
  • Add content (optional – description, transcript, etc.)
  • Upload a media image
  • Attach one or more Hosts
  • Select the related Podcast
  • Enter the full audio URL (e.g., .mp3 link)

👤 What Are Hosts?

Hosts are the people featured in the episode. They are shown on the episode page and can be linked to multiple episodes and podcasts.

📄 3. Podcast List Page

✅ Creating a Page to Collect All Podcasts

  • Go to Pages > Add New
  • Enter a title, e.g., Podcasts
  • In the Page Attributes or Template section, select “Podcasts Page”
  • Click Publish

This page will now automatically list all your published podcasts.

📄 4. Episode List Page

✅ Creating a Page to Collect All Episodes

  • Go to Pages > Add New
  • Enter a title, e.g., Episodes
  • In the Page Attributes or Template section, select “Episodes Page”
  • Click Publish

This page will now automatically list all your published episodes.

⚙️ 5. Theme Options for Podcasts

In Theme Options > Podcasts, you’ll find a dedicated panel to control how your podcasts and episodes are displayed across archive pages, single podcast pages, and widgets. Let’s explore each option in detail:

1. Podcasts Per Page (Archive)

This option controls how many podcasts are shown per page on the main podcast listing (created in Step 3). For example, if you set this to 6, and you have 18 podcasts, the archive will display 3 pages with pagination.

2. Episodes Shown per Podcast (Archive)

On the podcast archive page or in the Elementor Podcast List widget, each podcast block will display a fixed number of recent episodes. For instance, if you set this to 3, each podcast will show its latest 3 episodes, even if it has 10 or more. Visitors can still see the full list by visiting the single podcast page.

3. Episodes Per Page (Single Podcast)

Controls how many episodes are shown per page on each single podcast page. This helps organize long-running podcasts with dozens or hundreds of episodes. Pagination will appear if the limit is reached.

4. Episodes Layout

Choose the layout style for the episode listing on single podcast pages (Step 4). Available options include different visual styles — cards, list view, thumbnails, and more — to help match your site’s overall design and improve episode discoverability.

5. Episodes Per Page (Episodes Archive)

Sets how many episodes are shown per page on the Episodes Page (created in Step 4). For better UI/UX, you can increase this value (e.g., 20) to reduce pagination and help users see more content at once.

Note:  This section refers to the available options under Theme Options > Podcasts as of version 4.0. Future updates may introduce additional features or changes to these settings.

Author Avatar

For the author avatar, our theme uses the Image URL specified in the Mow Extra Profile Information section. If you don’t enter your own Image URL, the theme will default to using Gravatar.

How to? (FAQ)

#1 Theme installation issue: The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet

The issue occurred because you attempted to install the main.zip file into your themes. This file contains additional resources such as plugins, documentation, XML files, and the child theme. To install the theme correctly, unzip the downloaded file, locate the mow.zip file, and upload it to your themes.

#2 Mow Core plugin installation issue: An error occurred while installing Mow Core

The wpmain.zip file you downloaded from the ThemeForest downloads page contains the Mow Core plugin locally. To access it, unzip the wpmain.zip file, and inside, you will find a folder named plugins. Within this folder, you’ll locate the mow-core.zip file. Manually install this file through your WordPress dashboard by navigating to Plugins >> Add New.

#3 Demo Import issue

If you encounter issues with Automatic Demo Importing (One Click Demo Importer - OCDI), you can manually import the demo content by following these steps:

  1. In the main file you downloaded from the ThemeForest downloads page (https://themeforest.net/downloads), locate the demoassets folder. Inside, select the XML file you wish to import. For example: news-content.xml.
  2. Log in to your WordPress dashboard and navigate to: Dashboard > Tools > Import. Choose the WordPress Importer, install it if necessary, and upload the selected XML file.
#4 404 issue: I created pages but I’ve got 404 pages everywhere.

Go “Dashboard - Settings - Permalinks”, choose “Post Name” from Common Settings and push “Save Changes” button.

  4. Locate the mow.zip file in the downloaded package, then upload and install it via the Appearance > Themes section, replacing the existing Mow theme.
  5. Install and activate the required plugins when prompted.

Updating the theme is a safe process and does not affect your website’s content or non-theme-specific options. This means:
  1. Your posts, pages, media, and menus will remain intact.
  2. Custom options managed outside the theme (e.g., third-party plugins) will remain unchanged.
  3. Settings from plugins or WordPress core (e.g., general settings, users, etc.) will not be affected.

The Social List allows you to display social media icons in 4 areas of your site:

  1. Floating Bar
  2. Theme Footer
  3. Sidebar - Frenify Social Widget
  4. Sidebar - Frenify Followers Widget

1. Floating Bar

This social icon bar appears at the bottom right corner of the window and remains visible while users scroll through your site. It provides quick access to your social profiles without interrupting the browsing experience. You can enable or disable this feature in Theme Options > Social List. You can also customize the label text (e.g., "Follow Us") or hide it entirely for a cleaner look.

2. Theme Footer

Displays a row of social icons at the bottom of your site, making them accessible on every page. This is a traditional placement that most users expect to see in a website’s footer. You can manage visibility, order, and customize the social networks that appear here through Theme Options > Social List. The footer social list offers a static and professional presentation for your social media links.

3. Sidebar - Frenify Social Widget

This widget displays a simple and clean list of social icons in your site’s sidebar. It’s perfect for maintaining a consistent presence on every page. You can add it by navigating to Appearance > Widgets and placing the Frenify Social Widget in your desired sidebar location.

4. Sidebar - Frenify Followers Widget

In addition to displaying social icons, this widget provides extra functionality by showing follower counts for each social network. It’s designed to grab attention and build credibility by showcasing your social media influence. Add it by navigating to Appearance > Widgets and selecting Frenify Followers Widget. The primary difference from the Frenify Social Widget is the modern design and the follower count feature.

Important Notes
  • If you enter a URL (e.g., for Facebook) but do not enable it in the Visibility and Order settings, it will not be displayed.
  • Similarly, if you enable a social network through the Visibility and Order settings but do not enter a URL, the icon will not be shown. Make sure both the URL and visibility are correctly configured for each social platform you want to display.
